Darrell Issa: Government Is Biggest Threat To Internet Freedom

Rep. Darrell Issa: Government Is 'The Biggest Threat To Internet Freedom': " . . . Speaking with Mashable Editor in Chief Lance Ulanoff at the 2013 SXSW conference, Issa says government needs to have data that is easier to search and agrees the information should be accessible on mobile devices. "We want to have data standards that allow you, based on any logical search, to be able to get the information you want and to get it in its original form," Issa says, adding that he hopes things like the DATA Act get through Congress. Issa says information about how government spends money and what new laws are being made is more closed than anything in the private sector. "The biggest threat to Internet freedom comes from a government that's not online and available," he says. . . ."

DECLARATION
We stand for a free and open Internet.
We support transparent and participatory processes for making Internet policy and the establishment of five basic principles:
Expression: Don't censor the Internet.
Access: Promote universal access to fast and affordable networks.
Openness: Keep the Internet an open network where everyone is free to connect, communicate, write, read, watch, speak, listen, learn, create and innovate.
Innovation: Protect the freedom to innovate and create without permission. Don't block new technologies, and don't punish innovators for their users' actions.
Privacy: Protect privacy and defend everyone's ability to control how their data and devices are used.

KeepTheWebOpen.com: ""I believe that individuals deserve an open and unobstructed Internet, so they are free to innovate, collaborate and participate in building a stronger America and better world. It is crucial that we secure the principles outlined in the Declaration of Internet Freedom and the Digital Citizen's Bill of Rights to defend against those who seek to interfere and disrupt our vibrant online community and the economic growth it supports. I'm proud to sign the Declaration and look forward to working with my colleagues in Congress and Internet users everywhere to develop common-sense policy that ensures future generations enjoy the Internet freedoms we do today." - Congressman Darrell Issa, July 9, 2012"
